Hydrotherapy for migraines and tension headaches

As a follow up from my previous newsletter I will discuss hydrotherapy for the head area.

Headaches and migraines

  • The application of hot and cold packs to the area improves blood flow and releases muscle tension in headaches of muscular  vascular origin.
  • Migraines can be hot or cold ones. Cold packs at the base of the neck work best for hot migraines and hot packs for cold migraines.
  • Treatment for migraines or vascular headaches -
  • Soak one towel in hot water and another in ice water.
  • Wring out the ice water one and place  at back of neck, whilst soaking feet in a basin of hot water. Leave for 20 mins. If this does not work reverse the cloths.
  • Tension headaches - Soak one towel in hot water and the other in ice water. Put the hot towel on the base of the neck for 3 mins. Remove and replace with iced towel for 30 secs. Repeat three times. Hopefully this will help tension round the head and neck.
